News
Welcome to the News section of my site. Here is where you can find info on changes to my site, and updates on how my personal ducks are doing. The list below is in reverse chronological order.
10/15/04:
Okay, I just created an archive page for all 2002 News entries, to clean up this section a little bit. To view news from 2002, just scroll down to the bottom of this page and click 2002 News Archives. I'm gradually making some changes to site, hopefully I'll have it comepletely remade in the near future. I updated the Navigation bar as well, although I am likely to change it in the future. Keep the emails comin!
09/27/04:
Well, things are going pretty good for now. I'm now going to a public highschool, living near the city (nice for a change). I've been getting a lot of new duck questions in my email. Keep em comin! I miss having my ducks, but I think they are still doing great at our old house. That's it for now!
05/24/04:
Wow, it's been awhile. I've been getting a lot of questions emailed lately, which is good. I got my hedgehog, Yoda. He is quite a character. Also, I will be going on a mission trip to Dunbartonshire, Scotland, to help a work-team renevate a castle. We'll be doing things like sheetrock, painting, finishing stuff. And once we're done, we'll of course get to be tourists for a bit. For instance, we'll get to take a train accross the countryside and visit Edinburgh. I believe we'll be doing some hiking in the crags, too. I'm excited. I've gained a lot of experience with graphics since I made this site, so I may give the whole thing a makeover. That will have to wait a bit tho, because I am very busy. To all you duck-raisers, good luck, and please feel free to ask me any questions.

Well, it's been a long time since I last posted, and a lot has happened. First of all, I moved to the city, so I don't have ducks anymore. Still feel free to email me questions, though. Anyway, I don't think I will raise any more ducks for a while. I am about to get a hedgehog, though. I am thinking about naming him Yoda. And who knows, I might make a site about my hedgehog. If so, I'll put it in the Links section. Well, peace out. The story is over for now.
04/06/03:
Although I despise using Javascript, because of its tendency to cause errors, I have changed the site up a little. As you have probably noticed, the navigation buttons now turn yellow when your mouse hovers over them. Please let me know if this causes any problems for anyone and I will try to fix it. The ducks haven't really done anything differently so far. Well, back to working on the site.

I got to go to the beach today, and it was pretty fun. We got fried chicken before we went, so we got to mess with the seagulls. We brought some yarn, and tied chicken to both pieces of a string. Then, we threw it out. One seagull would pick the end up, then it would drop it because another one would get the other end. It was pretty funny. The ducks have been very active lately, and I got Norman close enough to examine him. One flew right over my head and almost hit me. Right now they are sleeping, and I am watching them from my computer desk downstairs. When they sleep, they curl their head around and tuck them in their wing. Then, they either have white eyelids or they roll their eyes backwards. It's hard to tell. Well, I am waiting for more babies, so I'll keep the site updated. By the way, I just found a bunch of pictures from when Lisa had her first ducklings. I am working on updating a lot of the site, and should have it uploaded any day now. Also, I might get a nice digital camera for my birthday.
03/21/03:
I fed the ducks a bunch of food today and they literally went insane. In a matter of 10 minutes, I saw the ducks mate about 8 times. And here's the bad part: there was only two hens. Even norman mated with one of the mallard hens, and that might turn out really weird. But, all I can do is wait, and I am wondering how long it is from mating to laying eggs. I already know it takes 28 days for eggs to hatch. I guess I'll eventually find out.
03/13/03:
Something very strange happened only minutes before now. My brother and I were watching a movie, when the ducks ran by the house. We jumped up and watched them, because a drake was chasing a hen around. They went around to the front of the house when the drake finally caught the hen. Then, on the porch, the drake mated with the hen. I am pretty sure I am going to have some more baby mallards this spring.
02/26/03:
Well, there hasn't been too much exciting events concerning my ducks lately. With all this rainy weather, they get a nonstop bath along with little puddles of drinking water just about everywhere. I like the new procedure I have now that allows me to easily transport their food all the way from the barn to the back of the house. I just hop on the four wheeler and get their food, then I ride to the house, drop the food, grab "Big Blue" (the garbage can that is, well, big and blue), and take to the end of the driveway. By the time I put the 4-wheeler up the ducks are all congregated in their usually dining spot. Then they pig out and return to their business.

The ducks are all doing great! I strongly believe I will have more baby ducks this year, but I have a decision to make. My mom doesn't want a million ducks running around the house pooping everywhere. I could take some of the newly born and sell them at Fazzio's, where I bought my first ducks, and I could make about a dollar or so for each one. I am just afraid that if I take them away from their mothers that I will scare the ducks and break their trust in me. I am afraid they won't be as friendly towards me, either. I am leaning towards not doing it, but contact me and tell me what you think. Moving on, I now have Windows XP and have figured out how to work it and we installed a printer/faxer/copier/scanner thing that is really nice. Therefore, I can just take pictures of my ducks with a disposable and scan them. I think I will run by WalMart and do that. Well, good luck (if you have ducks) and good bye!
02/04/03:
It has been a good while since I have last written. It is a new year now, and changes are abundant. I saw two other mallards swimming along side with my flock. Also, the ducks are grown in full and I am hoping they will reproduce in the coming seasons. They're trained now to constantly seek me, and when they spot me, they come running. Overall, they are in good shape. One change I have seen in their behavior is when they "fight." I mostly observe them at feeding time in the afternoons. As they eat, they will often lift up their head and chase another duck around. This is most common among the drakes. Today, I saw two drakes with their breasts right up against each other and they were pecking one another. Also, a drake started chasing a hen. The hen took off in flight towards the lake while the drake followed suit. They landed in the water and continued until finally they flew to the other lake and back to the feeding site. I think this may have something to do with mating season getting closer. A few more people have contacted me via email concerning the likes of their fowl. Also, I just started homeschooling, so I can have more time to work on the site and maybe find a new way to get some worthy pictures. Happy New Year until next time!
